How To Achieve All of Your 2020 New Years Resolutions || 12 Days of Blogmas 2019 Day 3

Welcome to Blogmas Day 3! Today, we are going to talk about what I do to achieve all of my New Year’s Resolutions! I have been setting New Year’s Resolutions for six years now (!!!?!), and while I haven’t done The Best™ at achieving all of them, I think I have a pretty good idea on how to actually achieve my New Years Resolutions and today, I’m going to be talking about what I’ve learned!
How To Achieve Everything You Want To Do in 2020

Step 1: Set Good Goals. We’ve all heard the tips about setting good goals: make them specific, break them down, etcetera. But what do they mean exactly? Here is what I think about when I set New Year’s Resolutions:

  • What do I want to change in my life? For example, next year, I want to start waking up before 7:30am. I don’t do that normally, but I want to in 2020! I like listing out all of the things I want to change in my life, however large or small it is. Goals of mine have ranged from “drink more tea” to “practice intermittent fasting,” but they are all things that I want to change in my life in the new year.
  • What is the most reasonable way of accomplishing this goal? Or, how much of this goal will I need to do to feel accomplished? For instance, I set the benchmark for my resolution of waking up early at 7:30, because that is a reasonable time to wake up. Although I would like to wake up earlier, setting my goal to be “wake up at 5am” is not going to be sustainable (for me at least) and will more likely result in my not accomplishing this goal.
When I set the goal lower than I want, then being able to check the resolution off my list will be a lot easier! While that might mean I won’t be able to exactly accomplish something I want to change in my life, it is a small step in the right direction, which is more than I was at before!
  • How can I break this goal down to make it achievable? One of my goals for 2020 is to start living a more nontoxic lifestyle. Since I’m not currently consciously living a nontoxic life, any step will be more than I’m currently doing. One of the first steps I want to take is to research which products that are the most toxic and begin working on getting those switched out.

2019-10-19 01.28.24 1.jpg

Step 2: Get Started On Your Goals Early It takes three weeks to begin establishing a habit, and two months for it to become ingrained in your life. Getting started with your goals a couple days (or even weeks!) before the New Year hits allows you to test out the feasibility of your goals before the real pressure hits.

Needing to do a 180-degree turn-around on January 1st is a lot, and if I don’t already have a plan to implement a goal into my life, then the chances of my accomplishing that goal is that much lower. The easier I make my goals and resolutions on myself January 1st, the easier keeping these habits in my life are going to be.

Step 3: Give Yourself Some Grace Even on the beset days, you mess up. Sometimes you take a step forward but then two steps back. Sometimes you sleep through your alarm. Sometimes, the only option you have is to eat before 9am, or use the not-non-toxic shampoo. That doesn’t mean failure! Get back up and try again.

So often, we aim for perfection, but the whole point of New Year’s Resolutions is not perfection. It’s about trying, and becoming a better person in the end. If you mess up one day, just try again the next! It’s not the end of the world: you are still taking steps to make yourself a better person. And in the end, that’s what matters, isn’t it?

Do you set New Year’s Resolutions? What is one you have for 2020? What are some things that you use to help you achieve your goals? Drop me a comment and let me know!

5 Ways To GUARANTEE Yourself a Better Morning || My Morning Routine || How to Survive College

Happy Weekend, everyone! I haven’t actually put up an actual blogpost up in a LONNNNNNNNNNG time but I’m here today with 5 Tips to Guarantee* Yourself a Better Morning!

*obviously it’s not /guaranteed/ guaranteed but I’ll do my best to make sure you have a better morning

5 Ways To Guarantee Yourself A Better Morning.png

I’m currently in the throes of my sophomore year of college, and free time is few and far between. I don’t have time to have an entire get-ready morning-routine much of the time, and time to myself is rare.

However, what I’ve come to realize is that if I get some time to myself in the morning and have a set morning routine, the rest of my day goes so much more smoothly and I have a much better mindset about the day. With that, I am more productive, I have a better attitude, and am overall just happier. (my introvert-ness is showing, huh?)

So what exactly do I do to guarantee myself a better morning? I’m about to tell you, right now!

  1. Get ready for the day THE NIGHT BEFORE. For me, it’s packing my backpack, picking out an outfit for the next day, setting out my Bible and journal, and making my coffee so I can just pour it over ice in the morning. Since I’ve been getting up before my roommate, I try to eliminate as many steps as I can so that I can just wake up, grab my stuff, and leave the room before making too much noise or turning on the light.
  2. Wake up EARLIER! I know we all have nights where we have to stay up late studying (or socializing) and LIFE just happens, but I’ve been waking up before 7 every morning (which is 2 hours earlier than I used to 🙈) and just spending that time on myself (which sometimes does come in the form of studying) before the day officially starts.2019-07-19 05.20.33 1.jpg
  3. Spend some time with God before other things. I’m super prone to putting quiet time on the back burner, and forgetting about it for large amounts of time, but I’ve been back on the quiet time game, and it really is the best thing 😍 I’ll be the first to admit, my quiet time sometimes involves more Instagram than actual Bible reading, but I’ve been making the effort and prioritizing some time with God, and it’s been amazing. (more blogposts on this topic coming soon!)
  4. Calendar block out your day. I have other blogposts that touch on this here and here, but I really really like planning out my day before I start it, so that I always know what I’m supposed to be doing and what I’ll be doing at any given point during the time. It used to stress me out and make me think I needed to have stuff in place for every single minute of the day, but then I realized I could calendar block in relaxing time, and now I love it again!
  5. Study some before your classes start! I really REALLY don’t like showing up to class unprepared, and I always feel behind if I don’t have a little background knowledge/done a little background reading before I show up to class (where are my premed/bio/chem kids at?) so studying a little before I go to class has helped me understand the material so much better and just makes my classes for that day so much easier and smoother!

For the past couple weeks, I’ve had this morning (and evening!) routine, and my life is CHANGED. I’ve been able to face the day so much more prepared (I used to wake up, muddle around some, probably finish some homework, and then run off to class. Yes, it was as much of a mess as it sounds), and I feel so much more organized and productive in the morning!

Let’s chat in the comments! Do you have a morning routine? What are some things that make you feel productive in the morning? Leave a comment down below; I’d love to chat with you!

5 EASY and PROVEN Tips for Drinking More Water || Simple Health Human Blog Tour

Hello there! Today, I have a super exciting post to share as a part of Vanessa’s blog tour for her new blog Simple Health Human! I’ll be sharing my top 5 tips for drinking more water!

5 Tips To Drink More Water.png

If you’ve ever seen me in real life, you know that I drink a LOT of water. Although I still generally don’t drink or believe in the recommended “8 cups a day” suggestion, I always try my best to drink as much water in a day as I can. Remembering to drink enough water is tricky sometimes, so here are my top 5 tips for drinking more water every day.

  1. KNOW HOW MUCH YOU’RE DRINKING
I generally try to drink about 90 ounces of water a day, and in order to achieve a goal like that, I need to know how much water I’m drinking. To do that, I usually drink water from one set container that I know the volume of, to make it easier for me to count. The container I use is a quart Mason jar with a plastic lid*, which is a HUGE container (and a little bulky to carry around), but I like using bigger containers because they’re easier to keep track of.  It’s a lot easier to remember that you’ve had 3 jars of water instead of 8 cups!
  2. CARRY WATER AROUND WITH YOU
You can’t have water if you don’t have any, so in order to stay well hydrated, bring a water bottle of some sort around with you! There are so many cute water bottles everywhere that aren’t very expensive, and carrying it around makes it so much more likely that you’ll drink water!
  3. COUNTERACT THE CAFFEINE
Caffeine is a diuretic, so if you have coffee (or anything else with caffeine), make sure you’re drinking water along with it! I *try* to drink twice the amount of water as my caffeine (so 6 ounces of coffee = 12 ounces of water) on top of my regular water, but even if that doesn’t work, I always drink water before and after I drink coffee. Drinking water with your caffeine will ensure you stay well hydrated!
  4. USE A STRAW
I find that I’ll drink a lot more water if I’m using a straw to drink it, so I have a stainless steel straw* (save the turtles!!) that I like to use to make it easier to drink my water. Using a straw makes it a lot more convenient to drink water, and is a super easy way to help yourself.
  5. MAKE IT FUN
The *only* thing you can’t put in your water is caffeine (so no coffee or tea), but aside from that, you can put other things in your water to make it more fun! Put in some ice, lemon, mint, or even those water flavor drops* to make your water taste better.
Another way to make your water fun is to know how much you need to drink as the day progresses, so you have a way to tell if you’re on track or not and am not stressed about it. You can make a tracker on your water bottle (or even buy a water bottle with a tracker*!) or set a timer on your phone. So long as you remember, do it however works for you!

So there you have it: 5 easy and proven tips for drinking more water! What are some of the tips you have for drinking water? What are some things you like to put in your water? Tell me! I’m always looking for new infused water recipes! Have you checked out Simple Health Human yet?

10 Life Hacks…TESTED

So. I watch wayy too many YouTube videos for my own good, or productivity. Some of these videos are “LIFE HACKS TESTED” videos, but usually the life hacks the YouTubers test are rather redundant and useless in actual life.

I’m usually more interested in more “practical” hacks, if you will. So I decided to do a blogpost, with 10 lifehacks that were more relevant to me (as in, school).

(TL;DR, I couldn’t think of a blogpost idea, so threw together something)

LifeHacksTested1.jpg

image not mine, feat Google Images; editing feat: PicMonkey

#1

google-translate

Pros: You can have your essay read out loud to you

Cons: 5000 character limit; sometimes mispronounces things

#2

essay

Pros: It works most of the time, but requires you consciously thinking about it.

Cons: Sometimes you can do a drop mic at a place that would be odd place to stop an essay

#3

whitenoise

Pros: There are so many choices!

Cons: Sometimes the choices distract me; also white noise just doesn’t work well for me.

#4

teachotheres

Pros: It actually works, particularly if you’re an auditory learner

Cons: If you don’t know enough about your topic, it’s rather sad and humiliating XD Also, you have to find a friend who’s willing to listen

#5

restore-tab

Pros: It works! It saves lives.

Cons: Not really anything that I can think of

#6

playlist.jpg

Pros: It works; I don’t use it for getting ready, but to measure off increments of time (usually 30 minutes).

Cons: You have to go through and think through times, and sort music and stuff.

#7

longerpapers.jpg

Pros: It works…and I have to say, I’ve used it more than once in the past.

Cons: It doesn’t strengthen your paper any, and is also a hassle, depending on your word processor

#8

healthy.jpg

Pros: It’s healthy

Cons: I’d rather die first (although tbh I don’t eat any of the above regularly)…but NOT ICE CREAM OR CHOCOLATE

#9

front.jpg

Pros: You stay alert, and can’t drift off; also aforementioned reasons

Cons: If you’re sick or something, then it’s very obvious

#10

language.jpg

Pros: It has a lot of languages, and is pretty effective (also has Klingon and other cool languages)

Cons: They are lacking several languages like Chinese, also require almost exponential time to keep up progress.

And that’s it. 10 lifehacks that may or may not improve your school life!

How are your NYR’s going?

Here it is, the end of January. How are the New Year’s Resolutions going? Here is a list of ways to keep your resolutions, from A to Z.

  • A. Accountability- There’s power in numbers!
  • B. Bring friends into the equation- Get a friend to do it with you! Again, accountability.
  • C. Call- Be willing to call for help when you need it; it’s okay to ask for help.
  • D. Discipline- While it isn’t fun and easy, discipline is required for change. Discipline yourself to do whatever you want to do.
  • E. Exclude- Exclude temptations from your life that make you want to break your resolution.
  • F. Find- Find others who are/are willing to make the same resolution as you and encourage one another.
  • G. Give- Give your resolution to God. Only He will be the one who determines whether or not it’ll be successful.
  • H. Hold on- Hold on! Although it may not be easy, it’ll get easier as it goes on.
  • I. Iron- Iron sharpens iron….accountability again. Trust me, it’s really helpful.
  • J. Just do it! Thanks, Nike…but….it’s freaking true!
  • K. Kvetch- A not-well-known word mean to complain habitually. Don’t kvetch! If you’re going to complain about how hard it is, you’re going to really think it’s hard, and it’ll be harder to accomplish.
  • L. Live it! Make the resolution a part of your lifestyle.
  • M. Mean it! Make resolutions that you mean and will keep.
  • N. Never give up! Yes, you may fail at times, but get back up and keep going! It’ll get easier are you go on!
  • O. Optimistic- Be optimistic, even when you feel like you can’t go on. You can!
  • P. Pray- Pray everyday about the resolutions, and Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides, will provide a way to accomplish it.
  • Q. Quit. No, not quit your resolutions when you get to Q! Instead, quit things that hinder your ability to keep your resolution.
  • R. Repeat. Whatever works, repeat it!
  • S. Surround. Surround yourself with positive people who will cheer you on to victory.
  • T. Track. Track your progress-something that marks progress will motivate you to continue.
  • U. Understand. Understand that you’re not perfect, but also understand that you get a second chance. Don’t give up!
  • V. Visualize. Visualize victory, and how awesome it’ll be.
  • W. Write. Write down your resolutions, and put them in a place where you’ll see them, so that you’ll remember what they are.
  • X. Xenophile. Another weird word, but it means “One attracted to foreign things.” Don’t get bogged down with what’s in this world, but remember what’s eternal.
  • Y. Yield. Yield every area of your life to Jesus Christ.
  • Z. Zeal. Zealously attack your resolution, and it’ll show up in your results.

I got the ABC’s from my devotional book and added the captions.
